"Jean’s research spoke to me in a deep way – I was most touched at first by her reflections on seeing no distinction between work and play – surely the wisest way to live. Now however, as my 15-month-old daughter stirs in the morning and the first thing we see is each other, our touch being the last thing each experienced as we fell asleep and I see her growing so well and so confidently, I realise her biggest gift has been the confidence to follow our instincts and not give away our parenting role to some ‘other authority’. I don’t refer back to Jean’s work as a point of reference – for me it was the gift of insight and from there all else has flowed."
